DAY 1: 7 AUGUST 2010
Camping costs: €17.30 – 1 night
Early start today. We set out at 02.45 hrs for Dover to catch our 05.55 hrs ferry to Calais. Pretty uneventful crossing with no major hiccups and successfully remembering to drive on the other side of the road.
We headed out on the A16 to Dunkerque and then down into Belgium. We had hardly realised that we had come into Belgium until we suddenly saw the border crossing sign…if we hadn’t looked in that direction I don’t think we would have noticed until the road signs were different.
By now we were truly tired, having had such an early start. We decided to stop and find a camp site. We turned off just outside Namur into a small town called Neufchateau. We found a very small, quiet camp site and set about setting up camp.
Next on the list was tea, juice and nesquick (the diversity of us 3), and a snack.
The camp site had a small porta-pool, trampoline and some swings. After getting the tent up, we went up for a swim, on the insistence of Cassie. We had a camp cooked meal that night of Thai yellow curry that we had brought with us. That night is poured!
Thankfully the rain had ceased when we woke in the morning. We now had the horrible job of packing away a wet tent, before we could proceed.
