Meeniyan Reserve Campground – Easy Community Overnight Camp

Meeniyan Recreation Reserve offers a camping option for a donation and is a great option for those exploring the beautiful Gippsland region of Victoria. This campground, located near the town, provides a convenient base for discovering the surrounding natural attractions and the delightful town of Meeniyan itself.

Our Experience

We loved the convenience of camping right in Meeniyan. The campground has a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of space for caravans, and campervans. It’s a popular spot, so arrive early, especially during peak season as it is a convenient gateway to other parts of Gippsland. We stopped in for a quick overnight layover on our way to the Snowy River National Park.

We got in late on a Wednesday and it was a celebration evening at the footie club, so was noisy for a while (in a pleasant community way). The event ended fairly early so did not impact on our experience.

There is an open-air toilet block and also a dump point for caravanners and RV’s who need facilities. The donation box for camping is also located right next to the dump point on the wall.

Things to Do in the Area

• Great Southern Rail Trail: Hire bikes in town and explore this scenic rail trail, which passes through lush countryside and charming towns. You can also hire e-bikes.
• Tarwin River: Enjoy a leisurely walk or picnic along the banks of the Tarwin River, just a short distance from the campground.
• Meeniyan’s Foodie Delights: Indulge in the local culinary scene with a visit to one of Meeniyan’s cafes or restaurants.
• Local Markets: If you’re lucky enough to be in Meeniyan on the first Saturday of the month, be sure to check out the Meeniyan Market for local produce, crafts, and artisan goods.
