Our Experience

Stevensons Falls Campground provides a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Otways. There are plenty of campsites or spots, some of which are fairly spacious and pretty level because the campground has recently been renovated, having been closed for quite a while. There is only one toilet block, and some of the spots are a little distance from the toilet, which, depending on what you prefer, could be a good thing, as the doors are generally noisy.

At all of the campsites, you can hear the flowing river, and the stunning waterfalls are within easy walking access. The campground is well-maintained, and the wood-fired BBQs were a great addition to cooking a campfire feast.

Things to Do in the Area

  • Stevensons Falls: Take a short walk to Stevensons Falls and marvel at the cascading water and the lush fern gully.
  • Gellibrand River: Enjoy chilling out by the river. If you are brave enough, a dip in the river is worth it, but it can be pretty cold.
  • Hiking Trails: Explore the network of hiking trails in the Otways, including the popular Triplet Falls Walk.
  • Wildlife Spotting: Keep an eye out for native wildlife while you are in the Otways. Tip: We often turn off the B100 Great Ocean Road towards the Cape Otway Light House. You are guaranteed to see Koalas down that road in the forest. Also, just before the Bimbi Park campground, the road opens out to farm fields, where we often see kangaroos, wallabies, and a variety of bird species.
  • Maits Rest Rainforest Walk: This is a short walk just off the Great Ocean Road after Appollo Bay, where you can follow boardwalks in the cool rainforest. We often stop here. It is a great short walk for really hot days. If you are there at night, you can spot glow worms, which are extraordinary!
  • Otway Fly Treetop Adventures: Experience the Otways from a different perspective with a thrilling treetop walk or zipline adventure.
